| Teens Abstaining and Positioning Self (TAPS) is an abstinence-centered education program that supports youth, ages 12-18, in their development of positive self-esteem and the building of healthy relationships. TAPS uses the WAIT (Why Am I Tempted) curriculum along with other socially-relevant materials to engage young people, encouraging them to stand powerfully and believe in their personal value and limitless potential. The TAPS program is determined to partner with several youth organizations in the counties of Somerset, Middlesex, and Union to save a generation. We are teaching teens to abstain from risky behaviors that could prevent them from tapping into their full potential. The message works if they work it! |

Project YES You Can! has been operating out of Saint Michael's Medical Center in Newark since 2004. We take our logo - Maximize Your Future - very seriously. High-risk behaviors, especially early sexual activity, threaten teens' physical and emotional health. When they make healthy choices and avoid those behaviors, they can pursue a promising future without being held back by unwanted consequences.
Project YES You Can! has served teens in classrooms across Essex County, as well as in youth- and family-serving organizations such as Covenant House, Harmony House and Isaiah House. Using YES You Can! curricula, our teachers have promoted the benefits of delaying sexual activity, taught boundary-setting and refusal skills, and provided full disclosure of the medical facts relevant to teen sexual activity.
The message of Project YES You Can! is one of health and empowerment. It helps youth live their today with maximum health and well-being, and look forward to their tomorrow with hope and dreams intact. The project also serves teachers and educational staff with in-service training, and encourages parents with presentations and materials that help them establish effective communication with their children on sexual matters.
As of October 1, 2010, Project YES You Can! will operate under the auspices of the New Jersey Physicians Advisory Group. For more information, please call 908.322.9050.

They have produced three levels of interactive school health curricula, reflecting New Jersey's state educational standards; YES You Can...Experience True Freedom! for middle schools and two additional levels for high school: YES You Can...Make Smart Choices! and YES You Can...Build Healthy Relationships! New Jersey students in 56 schools have benefited from this motivational message of risk avoidance. School In-service programs with continuing education credit, empowerment workshops for parents, and dynamic student assemblies are scheduled throughout the year. |
